Ook de winterrammenas behoort tot deze bonte groep van radijsachtigen.<br \/>\nBij iedere vari\u00ebteit is er een mooie variatie aan kleuren en vormen.<br \/>\nDe uitwendige kleuren zijn rood, wit of een combinatie daarvan. Bij winterrammenas is de uitwendige kleur zwart. Van binnen zijn ze allemaal wit. Soms zijn de wortels kegelvormig, soms zijn ze rond. Het eetbare deel, de knol, is een verdikking van het stukje stengel tussen wortel en kiemblaadjes.<br \/>\nDe teelt stelt weinig eisen. Zomerse temperaturen en droogte (bij radijs) kunnen, net zoals de koolvlieg, de teelt dwarsbomen. Op lichte grond is het makkelijker om lange, rechte rammenas of daikon te oogsten. De soort Raphanus sativus behoort tot de familie van de kruissbloemigen (Brassicaceae), waartoe ook alle koolsoorten behoren. Daar moet terdege rekening gehouden mee worden bij de vruchtafwisseling.<br \/>\nRadijs en zomerrammenas wordt meestal rauw verbruikt, bijvoorbeeld in salades. Maar rammenas kan ook worden gekookt of gebruikt in roerbakschotels. In de Aziatische keuken is de daikon heel populair. Zomerrammenas heeft een sterkere smaak dan radijs.
